Week 7 is On!

Good day all,

So week has started and the end is near!

One of this week's highlight, for me, is being introduced to a very user-friendly and environmentally-friendly technology tool called "Padlet", previously known as wish-wall. It is basically a virtual wall which is infinite in space and can serve many purposes like it can work as a debating space, a timeline, an announcement and important notices board .. etc.

We also were asked to choose a partner who'd review our projects/plans and provide us with a constructive feedback. Luckily, Adriano Lopez from Spain shares the same ideas and work on the same skill so we decided to work as partners and I'm sure it's going to be a great experience. High five, Adriano!

The Nicenet discussion I decided to participate in is on the one-computer classroom and using mobile phones in teaching. I learned a couple of new terms this week; MALL (actually and acronym that stands for Mobile Assisted Language Learning), m-learning (mobile-learning) and moblogging (sending pictures and words to a certain website). My colleague and I discussed many related topics and after reading articles posted by Donna I found out that there are zillion different ways through which mobile phones can be utilized in teaching/learning, whether it's a face-to-face experience or even a long-distance one; and whether it's "learner-paced or calendar-based". I liked what Mohammad from Bangladesh and Albana from Kosovo wrote on the topic stressing the importance of using mobiles; both giving us a piece of their minds. I find Albana's post to be somehow funny and honest.

Finally, I'm currently working on my draft project preparing it to be submitted to Adriano so as to see what he thinks about it and whether there are things to be added. I know May 28th is the deadline but I prefer to finish my assignments as soon as I can.

Gracias Adriano for offering your help and wait for my email!

  3. Hello Wadha,

You really did a good job, as always, very fast and effective. I made discussion on one computer classroom as well because it suits my teaching context.

I hope that you are doing well and enjoy writing a report of your project task.

  4. Hi Wadha,

I'm glad I made you laugh with my ridiculous ideas about using mobile for teaching :) I'm not found of mobiles and I hate it when students interrupt me because they forgot to turn-off their mobiles. People are so attached to their mobiles noways that it's difficult to have a decent conversation with your own friends. Don't you agree? :))

    1. Hi Albana, I wholeheartedly agree with the fact that mobiles are taking over our lives. People lost the art of communicating and we've been turned into robots so to speak. So yes, I do agree with you when it comes to regulating students' use of mobile phones. There needs to be a clear student-teacher policy to govern and moderate the whole experience.

Thanks for dropping by and I've just loved your review on Crystal's book. I keep telling my students that English is a global language and I explain to them why on the very first day of school. Such book is a very important asset and reference to all teachers. Keep it up!

  5. Hello Wadha,

I am amazed by the quality of your posts. Indeed, I lhave earned quite a lot from them. As for this one, I learned other things we can do with Padlet like debate, timeline and the posts of some announcements. Regarding Adriano, I am positive that both of you will have excellent written reports. My regards to him and hat off to you.

  6. Hello Wadha,

I'm looking forward to working with you and being your peer-partner. I must say that your project is really interesting and we have a lot in common since my students will focus on the speaking skill, as yours will.

I read your post on mobile learning and I also read some of the answers, like Albana's. One year ago I would have agreed with Albana on the idea that mobile phones are horrible and useless in class. Nowadays, my view is quite different, since as you stated in your post, there are a lot of good educational uses and students find them quite motivating and interesting.
